Where are Screen Shots Saved on Windows 11? Find Your Files | ScreenShotHow

Can't find your captures? Learn exactly where Windows 11 saves screen shots by default and how to change the folder location.

One of the most common frustrations is taking a screen shot and then not knowing where it went. Depending on the method you used, the location varies.

1. The Screenshots Folder

If you used Win + PrtSc or the Snipping Tool (and hit save), your files move here: This PC > Pictures > Screenshots

2. The Clipboard (Temporary)

If you just pressed PrtSc or used Win + Shift + S without clicking the “Save” icon in the notification, the image is only in your Clipboard.

3. Game Bar Captures

If you used the gaming shortcut Win + Alt + PrtSc, your files are stored in: This PC > Videos > Captures

4. How to Change the Default Save Folder

  1. Go to your Pictures folder.
  2. Right-click the Screenshots folder.
  3. Select Properties.
  4. Go to the Location tab.
  5. Click Move and select your preferred new destination.
