Snipping Tool Advanced Features on Windows
Beyond basic captures—learn how to use delay timers and screen recording in the Windows 11 Snipping Tool.
The Windows 11 Snipping Tool has evolved into a powerful suite. Here are the advanced features you might be missing.
1. Delay Timer
Need to capture a menu that disappears? Click the Clock icon in Snipping Tool to set a 3, 5, or 10-second delay before the capture starts.
2. Screen Recording
You can now record your screen directly! Select the Camcorder icon next to the Camera icon, click New, and select the area you want to record.
3. Extracting Text (OCR)
Take a screenshot of some text, then click the Text Actions icon (looks like a square with lines). Windows will scan the image and allow you to Copy all text.
4. Automatic Shapes
After taking a snip, you can use the pen tool. If you draw a rough circle and hold it for a second, Windows will snap it into a perfect circle!
